Spring Term 2022

This term we have taken part in 3 separate challenges.

During our lunchtime club every chess club player has taken part in the annual UK chess challenge, playing 7 games against 7 different players throughout the term. There has been some excellent chess played, and we have earned badges and mascots. Our Monday club winner was Amy (Yr3), Tuesday club winner Harry P (Yr3), Wednesday club had Abhigyan (Yr3) and Owen (Yr4) as joint winners, with Abhigyan winning the lower school trophy on the tie break. Barnaby (Yr6) and Keira (Yr6) tied ofr first place in the Thursday group winning the upper school trophy and girls trophies respectively. Well done to all our chess club players!

6th December 2021

Our HHJS On-Line team played in an on-line end of term chess tournament on 6th December. This was a marathon event with 21 players on our team, competing against other school teams of similar size.  Our team comprised YR6 - Keria, Taran, Ishaaq, Barnaby, Oonagh, Lysander, Jonah, YR5 - Harry, James A, Torben, Eddie, Eleanor, Ada, Joey, Isabella, YR4 - Adam, Arrav, Alice, Owen, YR3 - James M, Antonio

We were playing together as a HHJS school team against Ashley Primary in Walton on Thames, The Roche School in Wandsworth run by Makepeace With Chess, and Sheen Mount Junior School. Ashley Primary were deserving winners. It was a really tight competition for 2nd, 3rd and 4th place with HHJS grabbing 2nd place position right at the end. Nail-biting and very exciting!

1st December 2021

Our HHJS girls team played in an on-line chess tournament on 1st December 2021. The team comprised of Keira and Oonagh (Y6), Ada and Eleanor (Y5) and Alice and Tilly (Y4).

The tournament was organised by 'She Plays to Win', an organisation that encourages and promotes chess for girls.

Each play played for 1 hour with back to back chess matches online in Lichess, a chess software platform. Each match gave them 5 minutes per player on the clock with a 3-second increment for every move. This is fast chess and the players had to make the most of their time and try to outwit their opponent!

There were many school teams in the tournament. It was a long hour! Our players did very well to stay focused, never giving up and playing to win. Together they scored 34 points (2 points for every win and 1 point for any draw). This score earned them 3rd place! A really super result for Hampton Hill Juniors.

Well done to the girls team! Good luck to our on-line team (boys and girls) who are playing in an end of term on-line inter school fixture on Monday 6th December. This team will have 20 HHJS players, an exciting end to our term.
