A Message from Bill Jerman, Headteacher

Welcome to Hampton Hill Junior School and thank you for visiting our website.  Whether you are a parent, pupil, past or present, prospective employee, or just browsing, I hope you will find lots of things to interest and inform you.

I am really proud of our school and in the twenty plus years that I have been here, I have seen it develop and grow into a very special happy and dynamic place with a team of talented, hard working and committed staff who are dedicated to doing the very best for all children. I am equally proud of the wonderful young people in our school who consistently amaze me with their talent, enthusiasm, flair and leadership as well as their behaviour, engagement and involvement... A Summary of Science week last week

On Thursday we went to the hall to have a talk on rockets. As a game we had to name the planets in the solar system. The visitor also made us name rockets from a PowerPoint. There were two normal looking rockets and one crazy looking one made by England.

After the PowerPoint we went to the classroom and we were excited as some years 6’s were going to teach us how to make mini kites. So when the year 6’s came down to our classroom we were very happy to see them.  It took us quite a while but in the end we managed to make a miniature kite. They were amazing. When everybody had finished we went outside for a test-run.

Afterwards we went stayed in the classroom as the year 6’s went. We were then told we could make any origami animal out of a crane, bat and a butterfly. When we finished them we were able to take them outside and fly against each other.

This morning we made an aeroplane wing using paper, glue, string, straw and sticky tape.

After we made paper aeroplanes to see whose went the furthest. Mine won. We then flew our kites to end the day with letting off helium balloons to end a good science week.

On Thursday we had an epicly awesome assembly and a crazy scientist came in and talk to us about rockets . He told us that the first man on the moon was called Neil Armstomg . We also found out that a person in Ancient Greece discovered how to make rockets. He thought that if he filled a pigeon with water and heated it up then it would be a steam powered bird!

Next some really cool Year 6's came to show us how to make groovey kites. We worked in groups of 3 or 6 to produce our fantastic flying machines. After this we went into the playground to fly our kites. Luckily there was a lot of wind, brilliant for flying kites.

In the afternoon, the mad crazy scientist was back... He taught us how to make our own funky rockets. Once made we exploded them into space from the playground. Unfortunately some were lost over the fence (outer space) and others were smashed to bits because they were so fast.

      Overall the day was brilliant!!!
